Box Score
Missing four starters from last year's Great Midwest Athletic Conference champion team, Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball opened the regular season tonight against Asbury.

Jordanne Gambill had 19 points for KWC, but a jump shot with one second left sealed a 70-68 loss at the hands of the Eagles.  KWC trailed 39-36 at halftime, but fought back in the second half.

The Panthers trailed 61-54 with 9:32 left in the game and began their comeback.  When Haley Cook hit a free throw with 9:16 left in the game, the score was cut to 61-55.  Neither team would score for the next 2:03.

A pair of Jade Mills-Harris free throws cut the lead to 61-57 with 7:13 left in the game, before Asbury made a free throw 27 seconds later to make it 62-57.  A made free throw by Jennifer Walker-Crawford cut the lead to 62-58 with 6:36 left.

KWC finally ended a field goal drought of 5:23 when Walker-Crawford made a layup to cut the lead to 62-60 with 5:47 left.  Asbury responded with a pair of free throws and a layup to go up 66-60 at the 4:16 mark.

With 3:52 left, Katie Miller made a layup to cut the lead to 66-62, but Asbury made a free throw to make it 67-62 with 3:33 left in the contest.  A jumper from Gambill cut the lead to 67-64 and an Asbury free throw made it 68-64 with 1:43 left.

Miller was the Panther who responded, hitting a pair of free throws with 1:22 left to make it 68-66, then she hit a jumper with 25 seconds to play to tie the score at 68.  It stayed that way for the next 24 seconds, before Asbury hit a turn-around jumper with one second on the clock to come away with the 70-68 victory.

Miller finished with 12 for KWC and Walker-Crawford had 10 rebounds.  The Panthers will look to bounce back on Tuesday night when they play Southern Indiana at the Sportscenter.  Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
