Preview: Volleyball in West Virginia on important weekend

A win over Trevecca on Wednesday gave the Kentucky Wesleyan volleyball team a season sweep of the Trojans.

KWC enters the weekend tied for third in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference and with a spot clinched in the tournament.  This weekend, the Panthers travel to Salem International and Ohio Valley for a pair of important matches that would go a long way toward getting a better seed.

"We played a different lineup against Central State and they performed well," said head coach Eric Hagan.  "Saturday's match against Cedarville, we were mentally and physically prepared to play.  I loved their energy and their focus.  First two sets we played very well.  Anytime a team is down 0-2 and they win a set, you know they can grab momentum.  That was the best match we played all season."

KWC enters the match 12-11 overall and 5-3 in G-MAC play.  Summer Alford paces the team with 214 kills, Sarah Swenson has a team leading 297 assists and Hannah Hudnall has posted 371 digs, which is also a team-high.

Salem International enters tonight's match 4-17 overall and 1-7 in G-MAC play.

Ohio Valley has a record of 19-9 overall and 6-2 in the G-MAC which is tied for second, once spot ahead of KWC.  Alyx Henry leads the team in kills with 358, Jessica Simpson has 1,012 assists and Megan Morrison has 437 digs to lead the squad.

"I feel confident going into the Salem match," said Hagan, when asked to talk about this weekend. "Ohio Valley has been playing some really good volleyball so we have to be on our A game."

KWC returns to the court on Nov. 7 when they welcome cross-town rival Brescia to Jones Gym.
