Playing in their home opener, the Kentucky Wesleyan women's soccer pulled off an exciting 2-1 victory over Bellarmine on Sunday, Sept. 8 at Panther Field.
Bellarmine took a 1-0 lead early in the first half, after Lauren Boyd was credited with the goal on a corner kick by the Knights. The ball went off of a Kentucky Wesleyan player into the back of the net off of the corner kick by Boyd.
Junior
Annie Elder tied the game in the 14th minute on an assist from classmate
Julia Klump. Elder shot from the left side of the 18 yard box and scored in the right side of the Bellarmine goal.
The Knights outshot the Panthers 17-5 in the first half of action and Bellarmine also had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Kathryn Dishion recorded 10 saves in the first 45 minutes of play.
Junior
Taylor Clauson gave the Panthers the 2-1 advantage in the 74th minute after putting the ball over the Knights goalkeeper following an indirect free kick from junior
Paige Kramer.
The Panthers had six shots in the second half and Dishion posted six saves.
Kentucky Wesleyan travels to Georgetown, Ky. on Thursday, Sept. 12 to face Georgetown at 5 p.m.
