Mark Hagedorn leads Panthers to 8-5 win

Mark Hagedorn drove in three runs on two hits including a home run to lead Kentucky Wesleyan to an 8-5 victory against host and Midwest Region foe Oakland City in Oakland City, Ind., on Wednesday.
 
The Panthers opened the second inning with a run when Connor Petschke hit a single to score Aussie Light to take a 1-0 lead.
 
KWC then exploded in the third inning with four runs.
 
Ray Delvalle started the scoring with a RBI single bringing home Josh Vance. Aussie Light followed by a hit-by-pitch RBI allowing Michael Hellmueller to score. Hagedorn posted a fielder's choice RBI for Delvalle to cross the plate. Nolan Ray added a RBI single scoring Nathan Hedgepath for the fourth run for the 5-0 advantage
 
The Mighty Oaks got on the scoreboard with four runs in the third to close the margin to 5-4.
 
In the fifth, Hagedorn hit a sacrifice fly to send Hedgepath to the Panther's sixth run. Hagedorn came back in the seventh to smack a solo home run to extend the lead to 7-4.
 
Oakland City responded with their fifth and final run in the seventh.
 
Max Aubrey closed the ninth inning with a RBI on a throwing error by the shortstop to deliver Nolan Ray home for the 8-5 victory.
 
Ray was four-for-four at the plate and Hedgepath had three hits in four at bats. The Panthers collected 17 hits to the Mighty Oaks 15.
 
Matt Pobereyko received the starting nod by pitching the first three inning while striking out two.
 
Kaleb Moore earned the win by throwing four innings with three strikeouts. Noah Boswell threw the eight inning and Light closed the ninth inning picking up his second save of the season.
 
KWC (16-29, 9-23 GLVC) travel to Lebanon, Ill., to close the season with a GLVC four-game series against McKendree on Saturday, May 3, and Sunday, May 4. Both doubleheaders start at noon.
