Softball sweeps Trevecca Nazarene again

Kaci Ovelgoenner walk-off triple and scored on a fielding error in the bottom of the 11th inning lifted Kentucky Wesleyan to a 6-5 victory in the first game over visiting Trevecca Nazarene on Tuesday at Foster Field.
 
The Trojans started the third inning with three runs before Kelsey Miller scored on a fielding error in the bottom of the inning to give the Panther's first run.
 
In the fourth, Emily Woodward drove in Clarissa Smith with a single to close the margin to 3-2. Alex Baumgrat scored on a fielding error by the shortstop to tie the game at three-all in the sixth.
 
TNU forged ahead with two runs in the seventh and KWC followed with Ovelgoenner produced a two-run single in bottom half to even the score at 5-5.
 
Meagan Sallee collected a game-high three hits and Ovelgoenner had three RBIs for the Panthers. Ashlee Winstead went the distance by throwing 11 innings and striking out six and giving up one earned run.
 
In the nightcap, KWC jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never looked back in their 8-4 victory.
 
Miller started the first inning for the Panthers by scoring on a throwing error by the pitcher. Kyli Smithson followed in the second by driving in Ovelgoenner for the 2-0 lead.
 
Ovelgoenner hit a two-run single to bring Ashley Crooke and Weedman in the third to extend the advantage to 7-0.
 
The Trojans produced their first in run in the fifth.
 
Amber Pendergraft hit an inside-park home run in the bottom of the fifth for the Panther's eighth and final run.
 
TNU came back in the seventh to add three runs to settle on the 8-4 final.
 
Ovelgoenner went three-for-three at the place with two RBIs, Smithson collected two hits and Crooke had two RBIs.
 
Josalyn Ress pitched seven innings and posted four strikeouts.
 
The Panthers (10-13, 6-12 GLVC) travel to Cedarville for a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday in Cedarville, Ohio at 2 p.m.
