Kentucky Wesleyan split their final home Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader of the season on Sunday with Bellarmine. The Panthers won the first 4-1 and lost the second 4-2.
Jon Wandling put KWC on the scoreboard first with a RBI single in the third to score Jonathan Eberhardt. The Knights countered with their only run in the fourth.
Lucas Ray drove in Wandling and
Max Aubrey in the fifth with a single and then scored on a wild pitch to settle on the 4-1 Panther victory.
Eberhardt led with two hits and Ray had two RBIs. KWC produced eight and held BU to six.
Chaz Simpson earned the win by pitching six innings allowing six hits and one run.
Noah Boswell tossed the final inning where he had one walk and one strikeout.
In the night cap, the Knights started with two runs in the first before the Panthers responded.
Max Aubrey hit a sacrifice fly into right field to drive home
Mark Hagedorn in the second and
Ray Delvalle hit a RBI single to center to bring Ray home in the third to tie the score at 2-2.
BU came back in the fifth with two runs on a fielder's choice and an error to extend the lead to the final 4-2.
Delvalle led with two hits. The Knights had six hits to KWC's five.
Drew Watts started the contest.
Alex Simpson came in relief to throw 4.1 innings where he allowed four hits, two earned runs and two walks while throwing two strikeouts.
Tim Steed followed with 3.1 inning allowing no hits or runs and striking out five and
Aussie Light closed the final innings.
The Panthers (15-29, 9-23 GLVC) travel to Oakland City on May 1.
