Kentucky Wesleyan fell to Southern Indiana, 6-5 and 10-2, in Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader action on Wednesday evening at the USI Softball Field.
 
The Screaming Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead after scoring one in the first and second innings before KWC's offensive production kicked in.
 
Mackenzie Weedman hit a two-run double in the third to tie the contest by bringing Alex Baumgart and Kelsey Miller across the plate.
 
USI came back in the third inning with a run to re-take the lead.
 
The Panthers exploded for three in the fifth where they loaded the bases. Kaci Ovelgoenner started with a fielder's choice RBI with Kyli Smithson accounting for KWC's third to tie the game.
 
Meagan Sallee hit a RBI single to centerfield sending Baumgart home and Weedman finished the scoring spree on a sacrifice fly RBI by Ashley Crooke in the fifth for a 5-3 advantage.
 
USI rallied with two outs in the sixth and benefitted from two straight Panther errors to tie the score at 5-5.
 
The Screaming Eagles won the contest in the bottom of the seventh on a RBI double by Kyla Gogel to score Kaitlyn England all the way from first base.
 
Miller was three-for-four at the plate including a triple and Smithson was two-for-three including a double. KWC produced nine hits and allowed 12.
 
Ashlee Winstead received the loss in six and 2/3 innings with two strikeouts, one walk and four earned runs.


In the nightcap, Sallee collected her first homer of the season with a two-run shot in the second inning with Kaci Ovelgoenner making the trip from first base.  
 
USI (26-17, 14-14 GLVC) forged back with three runs in the third and fourth innings to push the score to 6-2 and closed the game with four in the fifth for the final tally via the eight-run rule.

Crook went two-for-three at the plate and Amber Pendergraft was two-for-two including a double. The Panthers had six hits and the Screaming Eagles recorded 11.
 
Josalyn Ress threw four innings with two strikeouts and five earned runs in the loss.

KWC (17-28, 11-21 GLVC) travels to Lebanon, Ill., to play the McKendree Bearcats on Saturday, April 27, for a doubleheader at noon.
