When Todd Lee announced he was leaving to take another job, all assistant coaches George Hemmingsen and Grant Hemmingsen knew to do was to keep doing their jobs.
It wasn't easy, not knowing whether or not the next coach would retain them or what the future might hold for them.
But the two brothers received some good news on Monday that they'd be retained on new coach
Happy Osborne's staff, and Osborne announced the decision publicly at his introductory press conference.
"It's been a whirlwind for three weeks for us," George Hemmingsen said. "Grant and I, it was uncertainty. We didn't know. Our biggest thing was just keeping these guys together because of how special this group's going to be. That was our main focus."
They both remained upbeat throughout the coaching search, never showing outwardly that they were worried or anxious at all.
They said part of that was because they continued to keep busy and not worry too much about the search itself, figuring whatever happens happens.
Once they both met Osborne, they felt right away that they had a good chance at sticking around.
But, as George said, it's been a tough few weeks for them.
"It was really hard," said Grant Hemmingsen, who also serves as KWC's women's golf coach. "Again, the uncertainty is the hardest thing. Me and George were both blown away after we got to sit down and have a dinner with him. He's a legend, he's smart…we've learned more in the past 24 hours than we have in a long time. It's been a great experience so far. We're excited."
George has been at KWC for three years and Grant has been on staff for two. The New Brighton, Minn., natives are largely responsible for recruiting the majority of players on KWC's current roster.
That, plus their eagerness to recruit, impressed Osborne.
"I think those guys have worked hard. Where we are, I like them. I think they've got great personality, great energy. They believe in this program. They are the guys that the kids know. It's going to take some time for me.
"If they have better opportunities, I want to be the kind of coach that helps them get it and not tries to hold them back. I like them both and they're really trying. They're doing everything you could ask."
