Kentucky Wesleyan swept Wisconsin-Parkside, 5-3 and 4-1, in Great Lakes Valley Conference softball action on Saturday afternoon at Foster Field in Owensboro.
In the opener,
Amber Pendergraft put the Panthers on the scoreboard first by driving home
Ashley Crooke with a single in the second inning.
KWC put two more on the board in the third for a 3-0 lead.
Meagan Sallee knocked in two runs on a shortstop fielding error bringing
Kelsey Miller and
Kyli Smithson across the plate.
The Rangers responded with two runs in the bottom of the third to close the Panther's margin to 3-2.
In the sixth Crooke scored her second run in the contest on a wild pitch.
Mackenzie Weedman hit a RBI single to send
Alex Baumgart home in the seventh to boost the advantage to 5-2. UWP followed in bottom of half with one run to settle on the final results.
Kelsey Miller led with two hits. KWC produced eight hits compared to UWP's six.
Ashlee Winstead earned the win by pitching seven complete innings allowing six hits and throwing three strikeouts.
In the closer,
Clarissa Smith hit a RBI grounder to the shortstop to score Crooke and Smithson drove in
Kaci Ovelgoenner on a single to start the Panthers with a 2-0 lead in the second.
The Rangers scored their only run in the third inning to cut the lead to 2-1.
Pendergraft hit a RBI double in the sixth to bring home Ovelgoenner to post a 3-1 score. Weedman followed in the seventh with a RBI sacrifice fly to send Miller to KWC's fifth run.
Miller and Smithson both recorded two hits a piece. Both squads had seven hits each.
Josalyn Ress captured the win in seven innings pitched allowing seven hits and three strikeouts.
