Lewis swept host Kentucky Wesleyan, 10-5 and 14-9, in a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader at Panther Park on Sunday.
In the opener, both teams were scoreless through three innings. The Flyers started the fourth with three runs followed by five in the fifth and one in the sixth before the Panthers responded.
Nathan Hedgepath hit a RBI double to bring home
Jon Wandling for their first of four runs in the sixth. With the bases loaded,
Nolan Ray was hit by a pitch to score
Ray Delvalle.
Lucas Ray then hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Hedgepath.
Sean Embry had a RBI single to knock in
Dustin Meherg to close the gap to 9-4.
Lewis added one in the seventh for their tenth run.
Hedgepath collected his second RBI of the game knocking in Delvalle for the 10-5 final.
The Panthers had seven hits to the Flyers eight. Delvalle and Hedgepath collected two hits in four at-bats.
Kaleb Moore received the loss in pitching 4.2 innings with one strikeout.
Alex Simpson and
Wes Ward came on for relief in the final two frames.
In the second contest, the Flyers produced one run in the first and two in the second for the 3-0 advantage.
KWC in the bottom of the second accumulated four runs to take the 4-3 lead.
Lucas Ray drove in two runs on a single scoring
Mark Hagedorn and
Aussie Light. Jonathan Eberhardt hit a RBI double bringing home Ray and Wandling knocked in Eberhardt on a single.
Lewis came back to add three in the third, three in the fourth and two in the fifth to extend the lead to 11-4.
The Panther's
Connor Petschke hit a three-run homer in the sixth bringing in Light and Hedgepath to cut the Lewis advantage to 11-7.
The Flyers brought home one more in the seventh.
In the eighth, Eberhardt hit a RBI single scoring
Jordan Harbison and Wandling added another run with a double bringing Ray across the plate for KWC's ninth and final run. Lewis added two more in the top of the ninth for the 14-9 loss.
The Panthers collected 11 hits to the Flyers 18. Wandling, Light and Eberhardt all had two hits. Petschke produced three RBIs.
Andrew Moralez received loss in 2.1 innings pitched and one strikeout. In relief
Matt Pobereyko had one strikeout,
Tyler Emberton recorded five strikeouts,
Noah Boswell added two and Light posted three.
KWC hosts GLVC arch-rival Southern Indiana on Wednesday at noon.
