Kentucky Wesleyan fell to host Illinois-Springfield 5-3 and 7-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference softball opener on Saturday.
 
The Prairie Stars jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first before the Panthers scored Meagan Salle on a RBI by Ashley Crooke in the second.
 
UIS added one more in the third. KWC came back with one in fourth on a RBI sacrifice fly by Kyli Smithson to bring in MacKenzie Weedman.
 
Weedman hit a RBI single to score Kaci Ovelgoenner in the fifth. The Prairie Stars added one more in the sixth for the final tally.
 
 Ashlee Winstead received the loss in pitching six innings and four strikeouts.
 
In the second contest, Alex Baumgrat scored first on an error in the opening inning. IUS came back to score three in the first and one in the third.
 
Crooke hit a RBI single to score Amber Pendergraft and Clarissa Smith knocked in Crooke to score two in the top of the sixth. Prairie Stars produced three in bottom of the sixth for the final result.
 
Josalyn Ress threw six innings with three strikeouts in the loss.

KWC (2-9, 0-2 GLVC) plays at Quincy on Sunday.
