Baseball splits four-game series at William Jewell

William Jewell jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first two innings to defeat Kentucky Wesleyan 8-4 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action in Liberty, Mo., on Friday afternoon.
 
The Panthers answered back with a run in the fourth by an Aussie Light RBI single scoring Jon Wandling following his double. Nathan Hedgepath knocked in Josh Vance, who doubled, on a single in the fifth.
 
Nolan Ray opened the ninth with a double and Hedgepath collected his second hit by hitting a two-run homer for the final tally. Matt Pobereyko received the loss in throwing one and one-third inning.
 
The second contest was moved to Kansas City and Rockhurst University late that same night for weather conditions.
 
KWC began the first with a Josh Vance RBI walk to score Hedgepath. Connor Petschke led off with a double in the third and Wandling brought him home on a fielder's choice.
 
The Cardinals scored their only run in the fourth.
 
Panthers exploded with three in the fifth from Reid Walker scoring Vance, Light and Wandling on an error.
 
Kaleb Moore earned the win by pitching seven innings and six strikeouts.
 
On Saturday, Wandling recorded eight strikeouts and threw a complete game to lead KWC to a 3-0 victory in the first game.
 
Ray knocked in Max Aubrey in the first frame for the 1-0 advantage. Hedgepath produced a two-run RBI double to score Sean Embry and Petschke.
 
Jewell scored a run in the second and third innings for the final 3-2 score.
 
In the series final, the Cardinals blanked the Panthers 2-0 by scoring all runs in the fifth inning. Tim Steed received the loss in throwing five innings and striking out three.
 
KWC (6-8, 2-2 GLVC) hosts Drury on Saturday and Sunday in a four-game series.
