Kentucky Wesleyan's defense clamped down toward the end of both halves to stymie the Southern Indiana offense and earn a 74-67 women's basketball victory on Thursday night at PAC Arena in Evansville.
The win guaranted KWC a share of the Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division title. The victory marked the second-most wins and second-most GLVC wins in KWC women's history.
It's the first GLVC East Division title in program history. The Lady Panthers (19-7, 14-4 GLVC) also tallied their second most wins in a season and second-most conference wins in a season in program history.
KWC held the Lady Eagles (17-9, 9-9) without a field goal for the final 5:43 after withstanding a USI rally midway through the second half.
KWC used a 17-0 run over nearly a seven-minute span to take a 39-30 lead late in the first half after trailing 24-16 and lead by six at halftime.
The Lady Panthers used six 3s and a 23-14 rebounding advantage to take the lead.
USI came back in the second half and took a 59-57 lead with under eight minutes left to play and stretched it to 64-61 with 5:40 left.
The Lady Panthers outscored USI 13-3 the rest of the way to earn the win.
Bianca Barton led KWC in scoring with 19 points. Lauren Goffinet added 12 points and seven rebounds, while Jordanne Gambill scored 11 points.
Stephanie Carpenter led USI with 16 points.
KWC (19-7, 14-4) will play at the GLVC Championship Tournament at the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind., next Friday. The opponent and game time will be announced on Monday.
