Kentucky Wesleyan shot 59 percent including 60 percent from three-point range in the first half to blow past Wisconsin-Parkside 69-57 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action in Owensboro on Thursday.
With the Panther win and a Lewis loss at Southern Indiana puts KWC (13-6, 9-3) and the Flyers (16-4, 9-3) in a tie for first place in the GLVC East Division. They will face each other at the Sportscenter on Saturday at 1 p.m. to break the deadlock.
The first half had eight lead changes and five ties in the first 15 minutes before the Panthers went on a 10-0 run during a three-minute span to take the lead for good at 36-25 with 1:45 remaining as they settle on a 36-27 halftime advantage.
KWC started the second half slowly building on the intermission margin before exploding with a 16-3 run for the Panther's largest lead at 56-34 with 10:29 left in the contest. The Rangers ended the contest with their own 8-0 run for the final tally.
Bianca Barton led KWC with 13 points plus collected six rebounds.
Lauren Goffinet added 12 points and
Karly Rhoads chipped in 11 points, three assists and two blocks.
Kailyn Mitchell grabbed a career and game-high 10 rebounds.
The Panthers shot 51 percent from the field and 46 percent from three-point territory and 82 percent from the foul line. KWC held UWP to 37 shooting including 17 percent beyond the arc and forced 17 turnovers.
