Four Panthers scored in double figures as Kentucky Wesleyan defeated visiting Oakland City 80-68 in a key Midwest Region contest on Monday night at the Sportscenter.
Shelbi Tyra led with 14 points followed by
Kourtney Rhoads' 13,
Jordanne Gambill's 11 and
Jordan Ogle's 10. Both Rhoads and
Ogle came off the bench for the Panthers.
T'Essence Phelps grabbed a game-high nine rebounds, Rhoads collected seven and twin sister Kourtney had six.
Bianca Barton handed out four assists and produced two steals.
KWC connected on 26-of-36 free throws compared to the Mighty Oaks 12-of-14. The Panthers had 24 offensive rebounds where they accumulated 21 second-chance points to win the boards 46 to 35. They also forced 17 turnovers.
OCU only lead was three in the first seven seconds before KWC slowly took control with a 37-23 halftime advantage. The Panthers stayed in double-digits throughout the second period and posted their largest lead by 19 with 6:06 remaining.
KWC (16-7) returns to Great Lakes Valley Conference action on Thursday when they travel to Lebanon, Ill., to play new GLVC member McKendree at 5:30.
