Playing in their final home match of the season on Saturday afternoon the Kentucky Wesleyan volleyball team swept Trevecca Nazarene. The Panthers finished 7-1 in home matches with six of those wins being three game sweeps. KWC is 22-6 overall and 10-2 in G-MAC play.
Prior to the start of the match the KWC volleyball team recognized its lone senior
Jordan Rickert.
In the opening set the teams would exchange the first few points before KWC went on a 6-1 run to go ahead 9-5. Junior
Bridget Johnson posted three kills for the Panthers during the run. The Panthers went ahead by 10 following an error by Trevecca that put the score at 20-10. KWC closed out the set with its largest lead, winning 25-11 on an error by the Trojans.
The second set remained close until the Panthers used another 6-1 this time to make it a 19-15 game. Junior
Chelsea Brothers recorded four kills during the run. Trevecca tallied three service aces at the end of the set to give KWC the 25-17 win.
KWC opened the third set scoring the first three points and built an 11-3 advantage over the Trojans. Trevecca fought back and pulled within one following a kill to put the score at 14-13. The Panthers didn't allow the Trojans to stick around for long using a 6-2 run to go ahead 21-17. KWC held off Trevecca, winning the third set 25-20.
Brothers had a team high 10 kills for the Panthers. Rickert finished with 33 assists and two service aces. Freshman
Summer Alford also posted two service aces in the win.
Sophomore
Dallas Zimmerman recorded nine block assists on the afternoon.
The Panthers posted a .312 attacking percentage, six service aces and 10 blocks.
KWC travels to Wilberforce, Ohio on Friday, Oct. 15 to play Central State at 5 p.m. CT.
