Playing in their final non-conference match of the season the Kentucky Wesleyan volleyball team swept crosstown rival Brescia in three sets Tuesday night at home. The Panthers are 21-6 overall on the season following the victory.
The Bearcats saw their only lead of the first set after scoring the opening point. KWC scored the next three points and eventually built a 12 point lead, going ahead 21-9. Brescia tried to make a late comeback, but the Panthers took the set 25-16.
Brescia opened the second set taking the first point again. Freshman
Summer Alford earned the kill on the next point to tie the score at one apiece. The Panthers took their first lead of the set on the following point on a service ace by freshman
Emily Yocom. The Bearcats tied the score at two all, but KWC went on to score the next two points to take the lead for good. KWC won the second set 25-11.
During the third set the Panthers jumped out to a 9-2 lead, scoring the first four points on three errors by Brescia and a kill by junior
Bridget Johnson. The Panthers had a 16 point advantage at 24-8 and went on to take the set 25-11.
Alford tallied a team high eight kills on the night. Freshman
Allyson Banks had 14 digs for the Panthers. Senior
Jordan Rickert posted 32 assists and two service aces. Sophomore
Dallas Zimmerman also had two service aces in the win. Junior
Erica Gallois collected four block assists.
The Panthers posted a .387 attacking percentage, nine service aces and five blocks.
KWC plays its final home match of the season on Saturday, Nov. 9 against G-MAC opponent Trevecca Nazarene at 1 p.m.
