Six Panthers scored in double figures for the Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball team as they beat McKendree 88-68 Saturday night in Lebanon, Ill. KWC improves to 4-1 on the season following the victory.
The Panthers opened the game with a 6-0 run with three different KWC players scoring baskets. McKendree ended the Panthers run at the 17:46 mark with a layup and pulled within two on another layup with 17:15 on the clock.
KWC used a 10-0 run to build a 16-4 advantage with just under 15 minutes remaining in the first half. The Bearcats again pulled within two following a jumper at the 12:30 mark.
McKendree tied the score at 19 apiece with 11:10 on the clock, but the Panthers regained the lead on the following possession on a three by senior
Karly Rhoads.
The score remained close until KWC went on another 10-0 run to go ahead 43-32 with 1:29 remaining in the half. KWC headed into halftime leading 45-38.
KWC shot 49% from the field during the first 20 minutes of play and 63% from three point range. The Panthers converted on both of their free throw attempts in the first half.
McKendree shot 50% from the field and from the free throw line, while shooting only 14% from beyond the arch.
In the second half of action the Bearcats last held the Panthers to a single digit lead at the 15:50 mark as McKendree made a layup to put the score at 53-45. Junior
Jordanne Gambill knocked down a three pointer on the ensuing possession to put the Panthers ahead 56-45.
KWC ended the game with its largest lead winning 88-68 following a made layup and free throw by Gambill.
The Panthers ended the game shooting 47% from the field, while hitting two of five three point attempts. KWC hit 62% from the stripe.
Ka. Rhoads had a team high 19 points, seven rebounds and three steals. She also tied senior
T'Essence Phelps with three assists in the win.
KWC returns to action on Monday, Dec. 2 against St. Joseph's at 6 p.m. CT in Rensselaer, Ind.
