After dropping the first set to Ursuline the Kentucky Wesleyan volleyball team was able to hold off the Arrows in five sets on Friday night to improve to 19-6 overall and 8-2 in the G-MAC.
The two teams were evenly matched in the first set with the score remaining close until Ursuline went ahead 20-6, but the Panthers fought back tying the score at 20 all. Freshman
Summer Alford tied the score for the 14th time when she picked up the kill on an assist by senior
Jordan Rickert. The Arrows took the next two points to take the first set 25-23.
KWC built a 7-1 advantage to start the second set with freshman
Emily Yocom posting two straight aces to open the game. The Panthers eventually built a 14 point lead on their way to a 25-11 win.
In the third set KWC opened much the same way they did the second game, going ahead 7-2. The Panthers carried the momentum through the remainder of the set taking the game 25-17.
During the fourth KWC led for much of the game, but Ursuline tied the match at 23 apiece and eventually took the set 26-24.
KWC pulled away from the Arrows in the fifth set on two errors by Ursuline and kills by Alford and sophomore
Dallas Zimmerman to put the score at 10-6. Junior
Chelsea Brothers closed out the set with a kill to give the Panthers the 15-12 victory.
Sophomore
Nikki Jenkins finished the match with 17 kills and 11 digs. Rickert posted 59 assists and three service aces. Yocom and Zimmerman also posted three service aces in the win. Junior
Hannah Hudnall recorded a team high 23 digs. Brothers had two solo blocks and a block assist.
The Panthers had a .294 attacking percentage, 10 service aces and four blocks.
