The Kentucky Wesleyan volleyball team opened play in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Cross Divisional Event on Friday afternoon against Davis & Elkins and won in three straight sets, before dropping a 3-1 decision to Alderson Broaddus. In the win today over Davis & Elkins the Panthers tied the season win total from last year. KWC is 11-3 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.
Against Davis & Elkins the Panthers scored the final three points in the first set to win 25-20.
In the second set KWC used a 7-1 run to pull away from the Senators after the score was tied at 11 all. The Panthers eventually took the set 25-20.
During the third set KWC scored the first four points, but Davis & Elkins countered with a 4-0 run. The score remained close until the end with the Panthers using a 4-1 run to close out the set, winning 25-22.
Freshman
Summer Alford finished the match with 12 kills and 13 digs. Senior
Jordan Rickert had 32 assists.
The Panthers posted a .140 attacking percentage, five service aces and two blocks in the win.
KWC and Alderson Broaddus exchanged leads four times during the first set and there were 11 ties before the Panthers were able to take the opening game 30-28.
The Battlers took the second and third sets by a score of 25-17.
In the fourth set the Panthers built a four point advantage, going ahead 11-7. KWC held onto the lead until late in the match. Alderson Broaddus tied the set at 24-24 and the set tied once more at 25 all before the Battlers pulled off the 27-25 win.
Junior
Bridget Johnson led the Panthers in kills with 11. Rickert posted 31 assists and two service aces. Junior
Hannah Hudnall had 20 digs.
The Panthers had a .139 attacking percentage, two service aces and seven blocks against Alderson Broaddus.
KWC returns to action in the G-MAC Cross Divisional Event on Saturday, Oct. 5 against Ursuline at 8 a.m. before playing Ohio Valley at 1 p.m.
