KWC volleyball stumbles to Bellarmine

Beating Bellarmine in three sets earlier in the season, Kentucky Wesleyan was looking to make it a sweep on the season Tuesday night, but the Knights pulled off the 3-1 win over the Panthers. KWC is 18-6 overall following the loss.

KWC opened the first set by scoring the first three points and took its largest lead at 19-11. The Knights pulled within two a couple times very late in the set, but the Panthers were able to close out the game 25-22.

The two teams exchanged points to start the second set before the Knights went on a 5-0 run to go ahead 9-4. Bellarmine built a 10 point lead, but the Panthers fought their way back pulling within two at 24-22. KWC was unable to continue its comeback as the Knights won the set 25-22.

In the third set the Panthers jumped out to a 5-0 advantage. Bellarmine recovered and tied the score at seven a piece. The Knights used a 4-2 run to take their second lead of the game and held onto it, eventually taking the set 25-21.

The two teams battled early in the fourth set. Bellarmine went ahead 10-6 and didn't look back taking the game 25-16.

Freshman Summer Alford led KWC in kills with 11. Senior Jordan Rickert posted 37 assists. Junior Hannah Hudnall recorded two service aces and 20 digs on the evening. Junior Chelsea Brothers provided the Panthers with three block assists.

KWC had a .178 attacking percentage, four service aces and six blocks.

Next up for the Panthers is G-MAC opponent Ursuline on Friday, Nov. 1 at 5 p.m. in Pepper Pike, Ohio.
