Returning to G-MAC play following a one game hiatus, the Kentucky Wesleyan volleyball team swept Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers improve to 16-4 overall and to 6-1 in league action.
The Trojans built a five point advantage early in the first set, until junior
Chelsea Brothers helped score three straight points for the Panthers to tie the set at 16 apiece. Trevecca Nazarene then recorded two attack errors and a bad set to give KWC the 19-16 edge. The Panthers kept the lead for the remainder of the set winning 25-21.
During the second set KWC used an 11-1 run to pull away from the Trojans after the score was tied 9-9. Freshman
Summer Alford scored four of the 11 points for the Panthers during the run. KWC took the second set 25-16.
In the third set the Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but the Trojans fought back to tie the score at four all. KWC scored the next five points and then went on an 8-1 run, eventually taking the game 25-11.
The Panthers finished the match with a .432 hitting percentage, five blocks and five aces.
Alford posted 11 kills in the win, while Brothers had one solo block and three block assists. Sophomore
Dallas Zimmerman recorded three service aces. Senior
Jordan Rickert compiled 36 assists and junior
Hannah Hudnall amassed 13 digs.
Next up for the Panthers is a non-conference match against Oakland City on Tuesday, Oct. 22 in Oakland City, Ind. at 7 p.m.
