Lucas Barker, a 6-foot, 175-pound combo guard from Cranbourne, Australia, signed a national letter-of-intent to play basketball for Kentucky Wesleyan College, according to Panther head coach Todd Lee.
Barker currently plays for the Dandenong Solo Rangers in the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL) where they compete from March to August.
In the first 14 games this season, Barker's averaging 10.4 points, 2.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 20.2 minutes per contest. In 2011, he produced 14.2 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists a game.
"Lucas will help us immediately as he possesses a very high basketball IQ and a tremendous shooting touch which allows him to play both the point and shooting guard positions," Lee said.
"He's currently gaining great playing experience at one of the highest levels in Australia with the SEABL. His playing with and against older players will prepare him well for this upcoming season."
His club experience also includes playing nine years for the Rangers junior squad.
Barker recently captained the Victorian Bushrangers U-20 Victorian Country Representative Team to the National Championship Cup where he averaged 13.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists.
He also played for Victorian Country in the National Championships at the U-18 level in 2010.
In high school, Barker averaged 21.3 points, 7.2 rebounds and 6.1 assists for Box Hill Senior Secondary College as they posted back-to-back undefeated seasons in 2010 and 2011 with two Victorian School Championships.
Barker joins fellow Australian and current KWC junior guard
Luke Shelley for the 2012-13 season.
