In the rubber match between the two teams on the season, #3 Northern Kentucky took the win over #6 Kentucky Wesleyan Friday afternoon, 58-51 to advance on in SCHEELS GLVC Championship play.
The Norse (22-5) held a narrow 22-21 advantage at the half, while the Panthers (21-7) led by as many as eight in the first half.
Northern Kentucky took the momentum and pushed itself to an 11 points lead before KWC clawed its way back into it.
The Norse would not be deterred though, and put together a 6-1 run late in the seond half to stake themselves back to a seven-point lead, 53-46 with 3:22 to play.
In the win, NKU was led by Eshaunte Jones with 16 points. and eight rebounds, while First Team All-GLVC selection Ethan Faulkner had 12 in the win.
Kentucky Wesleyan was paced by 16 from
Brandon Johnson, all in the second half, while Marseilles Stewert added 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
Northern Kentucky advances on in tournament play to face off with the winner of #2 Missouri-St. Louis and #7 Drury Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
