Balanced Lewis upends Panthers

Lewis shot 53 percent from the field and placed five players in the double-digit scoring column on the way to an 80-64 conquest of homestanding Kentucky Wesleyan in a women's college basketball game Thursday at the Sportscenter.

The Flyers won for just the sixth time in 26 games and improved to 4-10 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Panthers slipped to 13-9, 7-7.

KWC struggled from the outside, shooting just 39 percent overall (23-of-59) and only 18 percent from 3-point range (3-of-17).

Jamie Johnson and Jess Reinhart led the balanced Flyers with 13 points apiece. Nikki Nellen scored 12, with Madeline Kish and Labrenthia Murdock each scored 10. Murdock paced Lewis with nine rebounds and six assists.


T'Essence Phelps, Karly Rhoads and Neika Smith each scored 10 points to pace Kentucky Wesleyan, which was victimized by 23 turnovers.

KWC will attempt to get back on track at 1 p.m. Saturday when it plays host to league foe Wisconsin-Parkside.
