Depth was key for Kentucky Wesleyan's women's basketball team on Thursday night.

The Panthers' bench held a 35-17 scoring edge as KWC knocked off visiting McKendree 77-59 at the Sportscenter.

Wesleyan, improving to 7-2 on the season, led 39-31 at intermission and extended their lead over the final 20 minutes by limiting McKendree to just 36 percent shooting during that span.

Leading the way for the ultra-balanced Panthers was Karly Rhoads, who finished 7-of-9 from the field on her way to 15 points. Katie Behrens added 12 points for Wesleyan, which featured 10 players with four or more points.


Nieka Smith and Lauren Goffinet each dished three assists, and Kourtney Rhoads made two steals. Kailyn Mitchell paced KWC with six rebounds, despite just 11 minutes of court time.

McKendree (6-8) was led by Caty Ponce's game-best 16 points. Courtney Harris scored 13 and Ashley Dressler added 12.

For the game, Wesleyan shot 53 percent from the floor (31-of-59) and drained 9-of-10 foul shots. KWC outrebounded McKendree by a 39-31 margin, and committed 15 floor mistakes.

McKendree made 24-of-62 shots from the field (39 percent) and was 7-of-12 from the foul stripe (58 percent). The visitors matched Wesleyan's 15 turnovers.
