Panthers shut out by Central State

Box Score

The lack of numbers is starting to catch up to Kentucky Wesleyan College's football team.

The Panthers had no answer for Central State in a matchup of winless teams on Saturday at Steele Stadium.

Jeffrey Brooks ran for two touchdowns and threw for a third as Central State broke an eight-game losing streak and beat the Panthers 36-0.

“I thought we would be very competitive in this game, but it didn't work out that way,” KWC coach Brent Holsclaw said. “We're having huge lack of depth issues.”

The Panthers are having to patch holes along the offensive line and in their linebacking corps.

“Guys are injured and out there playing,” Holsclaw said.

Brooks hit Chris Murray-Towns with a 42-yard touchdown pass to put Central State up 14-0 with 10:49 left in the first half. Brooks scored on a 15-yard run and a 2-yard run in the third and fourth quarters, pushing Central State to a 29-0 advantage.

Camero Bradley scored the final touchdown of the day for Central State when he fell on a Terre Clements fumble in the end zone with 8:57 left in the game.

Brooks finished 13-of-21 passing for 193 yards without and interception. Daryl Conley rushed 13 times for 91 yards and scored the first touchdown of the game on a 12-yard run late in the first quarter.

Chris Owen hit 18-of-32 passes for 225 yards and two interceptions. Jake Pepper made five catches for 114 yards.

Central State had 344 yards in total offense compared to 279 for KWC.

The Panthers take a 0-9 record to Notre Dame College this Saturday.
