The Kentucky Wesleyan College men's basketball team will play the Big Blue All-Stars, a team of former University of Kentucky players, in a scrimmage game at 4 p.m. on Oct. 23 at the Sportscenter, a KWC official confirmed Thursday.
KWC Athletic Director David Williams said a few details about the game must still be worked out, but “the game will happen.”
Williams said former Wildcat DeMarcus Cousins has committed to playing in the game, while former Apollo High School, UK and NBA star Rex Chapman will be an honorary coach for the Big Blue All-Stars.
The Big Blue All-Stars is a team organized by former UK player Jeff Sheppard and is scheduled to play a series of games this fall against Kentucky small college teams.
On Oct. 24 at Rupp Arena, the former UK greats, many of whom now play in the National Basketball Association, are scheduled to take on a team called The Villains, coached by former Duke player Christian Laettner.
Rajon Rondo, Tayshaun Prince, Nazr Mohammed, Keith Bogans, Josh Harrellson, Jodie Meeks and Enes Kanter are among the players on the Big Blue All-Stars roster, although the roster for the game against Wesleyan has yet to be confirmed.
KWC will announce the Big Blue All-Star team roster for the Sportscenter exhibition today, KWC men's basketball coach Todd Lee said. Information about tickets will also be released today, he said.
“I think it will be great,” Lee said.
