Panthers take two from Oaks

Kentucky Wesleyan swept Oakland City in a collegiate softballl doubleheader on Wednesday at KWC's Foster Field.

In the 4-3 opener, left fielder Clarissa Smith provided much of the firepower for the Panthers, knocking in three runs. Suzy Gentili added two hits and an RBI.

The Panthers rallied with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to win it. Smith's fielder's choice grounder plated Laura Helms with the winning run.

Gentili scattered six hits over seven innings, striking out three and issuing one walk.


Katy Kruse, Leah Emerick and Helms also had two hits for the Panthers.

In the 6-5 nightcap, Wesleyan jumped on the Mighty Oaks for four runs in the first inning and two more in the second, before stemming a late rally. Gentili, Smith and Michelle Hatfield each had two RBIs for Wesleyan.

Helms cracked two doubles, and Emerick scored a pair of runs.

Sarah Pedigo earned the win, with relief help from Gentili.
