Kentucky Wesleyan College got what it expected when it went to South Alabama.
A lopsided defeat.
The Jaguars scored 28 points in the second quarter on the way to a 52-3 win over KWC on Saturday in Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile. The loss dropped the Panthers to 3-2.
South Alabama improved to 4-0 during this transition season to the Football Bowl Subdivision and the Sun Belt Conference. South Alabama is expecting to join the Sun Belt in 2012.
Kendall Houston got things going with touchdown runs of 1 and 14 yards before seven minutes had elapsed in the game.
South Alabama also had touchdown passes thrown by both C.J. Bennett and Myles Gibbon. Bennett hit 8-of-13 passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns, while Gibbon completed 4-of-7 passes for 139 yards and one score.
Michael Wilson returned an interception 75 yards and Santuan McGee scored on a 2-yard run before halftime for the Jaguars.
Matt Wilson hit a 28-yard field goal to get the Panthers on the board 13 seconds before the half.
Courtney Smith caught three passes for 91 yards to lead South Alabama. Brandon Ross ran three times for 78 yards and had one carry of 62 yards for the Jags.
South Alabama finished with 413 yards in total offense and had 114 yards on the ground.
Chris Owen hit 14-of-27 passes for 162 yards with two interceptions for the Panthers. KWC also lost three fumbles.
DaMarcus Ganaway made five catches for 132 yards for the Panthers.
KWC plays at Urbana next Saturday.
