The Kentucky Wesleyan College football team was unable to capitalize on an exceptional performance by running back Thomas Gordon, as the Panthers fell 30-25 to Kentucky State on Saturday at Alumni Stadium in Frankfort.

Gordon rushed for 229 yards -- fourth most in the program's history -- and three touchdowns on 22 carries.

Gordon gave the Panthers a 6-0 lead when he busted loose on a 68-yard scoring run in the first quarter. After Kentucky State took a 7-6 lead, Gordon scampered 47 yards for a TD.

Ben Wilson recovered a fumble in the end zone with 6:05 left in the first half that extended the Panthers' lead to 19-10. But Shannon Frieson's 4-yard TD run inside the last minute cut the deficit to 19-16 at halftime.


Frieson added a 45-yard TD reception with 2:52 left in the third quarter, then Anthony Boykins scored on a 51-yard run less than a minute later to push the Thorobreds ahead 30-19.

Gordon added a 5-yard TD run with 14:55 remaining to close the scoring.

KWC had 35 passing yards.
