Box Score

Kentucky Wesleyan College had a dramatic and thrilling first victory of the season.

The Panthers' Vincent Lalonde scored on a 5-yard touchdown run and Richard Fangman kicked the decisive extra point in the second overtime to push KWC to a 31-30 win over Central State on Saturday night.

"Fangman is a mentally tough kid, and when he kicked it through the place went crazy," KWC coach Brent Holsclaw said of the 1,800 fans at Steele Stadium. "It was amazing, and a lot of fun."

Fangman also hit a 45-yard field goal in the second quarter which gave the Panthers a 17-10 lead. Fangman missed a 34-yard try in the first overtime.

KWC was good on special teams most of the night. The Panthers blocked three punts, a field goal and an extra point in overtime.

David James blocked a 15-yard field goal try by Alphonso Lopez that would have won the game for Central State. James also blocked the extra point after Joshu Anderson scored on a 1-yard run in the second overtime to push Central State in front 30-24.

"It was one of the most exciting games I've been a part of," Holsclaw said. "Holy cow, what an atmosphere."

The Panthers took a 14-0 lead in the opening period. Lalonde hit Tim Davis with a 9-yard scoring pass. Lalonde also found Derek Brown with a 26-yard scoring strike with 5:08 to go in the period.

"We got up early, and our kids got a little complacent," Holsclaw said. "We kept them in the game."

The Panthers (1-5) also picked up their first Great Lakes Football Conference victory. Central State fell to 0-5.
