Kentucky Wesleyan College announced that Dontae Truitt and Franklyn Ferguson have been declared ineligible to play basketball. In preparing the squad list for the upcoming season, information was discovered that led to the college questioning their eligibility. Due to the student privacy act, details regarding the two student-athletes eligibility cannot be released.
“We deeply regret this situation for these two individuals, for the team, and for the Kentucky Wesleyan College community.†said President Anne Cairns Federlein. “We’re sorry that this information just came to light but it is our first responsibility to be an institution of integrity.
“Since I recently became President, we have been very diligent about checking, double-checking, re-checking and working with our counsel to ensure compliance for all student-athletes. We are and will continue to work with the NCAA to ensure all student-athletes eligibility requirements are fulfilled before participation.â€
Truitt, a 6-6 forward from Baltimore, Md., led the Panthers in scoring with 19.3 points per game, blocked shots with 28 and was second in rebounding with 7.5 boards in starting 18 of 27 games last season. He earned first-team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference and second-team All-Great Lakes Region honors. He shot 55.8 percent from the field, 38.9 percent from three-point territory and 62.8 percent from the foul line
Ferguson, a 6-6 center from Limon, Costa Rica, averaged a fifth-best 8.6 points and a third leading 4.9 rebounds in starting 17 of 29 games in 2004. He shot 56.5 percent from the field and 68.2 percent from the charity stripe while playing 23.6 minutes per contest.
