2016 Football scheduled announced

The 2016 Kentucky Wesleyan football schedule features three nationally ranked Division II programs and two FCS opponents, according to Panther head coach Brent Holsclaw. The 11-game slate will have five at Steele Stadium and six on the road.

"This schedule is by far the most demanding and difficult in our history," Holsclaw stated. "Never have we had eight Division II foes including three powerhouses plus two FSC schools in one season. We relish each and every one of these challenges."

The Panthers open in Mississippi at Div. II powerhouse Delta State on Sept. 3. They return home to Steele Stadium against FCS foe Davidson on Sept. 10. This marks the first-time KWC has hosted a FCS team.

Coach Holsclaw will then take his squad to Michigan to face first-time foe and new Div. II member Davenport on Sept. 17.

The Panthers come back for two straight home games with nationally-ranked Indianapolis on Sept. 24, followed by Central State on Oct. 1. The CSU game has been tabbed as Homecoming.

After Homecoming, Kentucky Wesleyan will enter a tough three- game stretch.

They start with back-to-back road appearances at FSC foe Northwestern State (La.) on Oct. 8, and Div. II North Carolina-Pembroke on Oct. 15. The Panthers will host No. 10 ranked Ashland on Oct. 22.

Kentucky Wesleyan goes back on the road to New York to place Alfred State on Oct. 29.

The Panthers return to Steele Stadium for the final home game as they face new foe and Great Midwest Athletic Conference member Malone on Nov. 5. They close the season at G-MAC rival Alderson Broaddus on Nov. 12.

Kentucky Wesleyan finished 2015 with a 5-6 record and return several key players for 2016.

Back on offense are senior All-American wide receiver Keelan Cole and lineman Reggie White. Cole produced 1,345 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns in 2015. White along with Cole were named to the 2016 All-Commonwealth team.

On the defensive side, top returnees include key pass rusher Lane McHatton and linebacker Vasco Billberry. McHatton and Billberry were also named to the All-Commonwealth team.
