A member of the class of 1969, Hobgood was a key member to the men's basketball team prolific success in the late 60s. He started all four years for the Panthers. Hobgood helped Wesleyan win three NCAA championships, one in 1966, then two back-to-back in 1968 and 1969. During his sophomore season in 1967 he helped the Panthers to a third-place finish. Hobgood was selected to both the NCAA All-Finals Team and the NCAA All-South Region Tournament Team in 1969.
The Nebo, Kentucky native ended his career with the impressive count of 805 points, while grabbing 196 rebounds. He started in 54 games, while seeing action in a total of 105. Hobgood now lives in Owensboro, he is a retired schoolteacher from Daviess County High School.
