A member of the Class of 1931, Gallagher was a four-year starter for the Kentucky Wesleyan football team. A two-time team captain, he was named to the All-Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Team all four seasons.
A native of Ironton, Ohio, Gallagher went on to be the Head Football Coach at Santa Clara University as well as the Head Baseball and Head Basketball Coach at William and Mary. Gallagher worked in the National Football League for nearly two decades, serving as the General Manager of the Cleveland Browns (1954-59) and General Manager of the Buffalo Bills (1960-67). Gallagher was the second ever Executive Director of the Pro Football Hall of Fame from 1968 to 1976.
An inductee into the Kentucky Wesleyan College Alumni Hall of Fame in 2005, Gallagher passed away in 1995.
