Dalton Oliver sets two passing records in 39-31 win

Dalton Oliver threw for five touchdown passes while breaking two records in the Panthers 39-31 win over North Carolina-Pembroke on Saturday afternoon at Steele Stadium.
 
Oliver set the passing milestones with 510 yards and 37 completions on 51 attempts as Kentucky Wesleyan racked up 603 yards in offense.
 
Xavier Mitchell caught a game-high 12 tosses for 87 yards and two touchdowns. Keelan Cole grabbed 11 receptions for a game-best 224 yards and two touchdowns.
 
Oliver opened the game with a 45-yard pass to Cole in the first quarter. Two minutes later the Braves knotted the score on a Patrick O'Brien's one-yard run. UNC-P scoring continued with a 36-yard field goal by Matt Davis early in the second period to move ahead 10-7.
 
KWC's Cole Woodburn tied the contest with a 30-yard field goal. Dalton and Cole then connected for their second touchdown with a 16-yard pass.
 
Patrick O'Brien closed the half with a 63-yard pass to B.J. Bunn to put the Braves up 17-16 at halftime.
 
The Panthers quickly scored 13 points in the third as Oliver threw back-to-back passes of nine and 11 yards to Xavier Mitchell for the 29-17 advantage.
 
O'Brien and the Braves would not go away in the final seven minutes. John Rich caught a 29-yarder from O'Brien to cut the lead to 29-24.
 
Oliver wasted no time putting Kentucky Wesleyan back in the end zone with a 30-yard pass to Travion Tucker for a 12-point margin at 36-14 with 4:36 remaining.
 
The Braves once again shorten the lead with a 70-yard drive on six plays as O'Brien scored on a three-yard jaunt to 36-31 with 3:06 on the clock.
 
Cole Woodburn pushed the Panthers to the final 39-31 victory with a 21-yard field goal.
 
Kentucky Wesleyan (4-4) will host Alderson Broaddus (6-4) in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Founder's Cup Game next Saturday at 1 p.m.
