Football falls as time expires, 48-45

Kentucky Wesleyan fell to host Warner, 48-42, on a 50-yard Hail Mary pass as time expired in Lake Wales. Fla., on Saturday.

David White scored on a four-yard run and Cole Woodburn chipped in the extra point as the Panther's recaptured the lead 45-42 with 10 second left in the contest. Then the Royal's Jayvon Young hauled in the improbable pass from Darrin Davis to captured the win.

Keelan Cole started the KWC's scoring on a three-yard pass from Dalton Oliver in the first quarter. Woodburn followed with a 36-yard field goal early in the second to jump out to a 10-0 advantage.

Warner then scored straight points on a one-yard run, 68-yard pass and 26-yard run to take a 21-10 lead. Xavier Mitchell  caught a 37-yard pass to put the Panthers back on the scoreboard as the half closed at 21-17.

White opened the third quarter with a one-yard run and a Woodburn kick to retake the Panther's lead at 24-21. Warner quickly responded with a two-yard run to go ahead at 28-24 to end the quarter.

The fourth quarter saw 41 points scored between both squads and six lead changes.

LaDon Laney started the scoring spree for KWC with a one-yard run and Woodburn kick. The Royals came back with a 59-yard passing touchdown to make their tally 35-31.
Oliver ran two-yards and Woodburn kick for the Panther's next lead at 38-35 with 2:38 remaining. Once again Warner responded with a 57-yard touchdown pass with 1:44 left and the 42-38 lead before the 10-second two touchdown flurry.

KWC finished with 514 yards of total offense and the Royals amassed 557.

Oliver threw for a third straight 300-plus yard game with 379 by connecting on 22-of-32 attempts and two touchdowns. Mitchell caught nine passes for 169 yards and Cole collected seven receptions and 176 yards and one touchdown.

Myles Walker rushed for 71 yards on 16 carries. Cody Mills led the defensive with four solos and four assists.

KWC (3-3) hosts Lindenwood-Belleville (1-4) at 1 p.m. next Saturday.
