Kentucky Wesleyan dropped a doubleheader at Northern Kentucky, 7-6 and 11-2, in Great Lakes Valley Conference action on Sunday afternoon at Highland Heights.
NKU jumped out to a 6-0 lead by scoring one in the second, one in the third and four in the fourth in the opener.
The Panthers responded with two in the fifth when
Traci Sanders walked scoring
Katy Kruse and
Angie Camp was hit-by-a-pitch bringing
Kyli Smithson home.
KWC scored four in the seventh with
Kayla Meny,
Josalyn Ress,
Clarissa Smith and Kruse each hitting a RBI singles. The Norse scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seven.
Kruse went 4-for-5 at the plate, Camp and Smith added two hits each.
Ashlee Winstead pitched four innings, produced four strikeouts and gave up six runs. Ress took the loss with 2.1 innings, one strikeout and NKU's go-ahead run.
Jordan Vertz closed the game.
In the second contest, the Norse produced two runs in the first and eight in the second for a 10-0 margin.
Meagan Sallee hit a two-run homer to put KWC on the scoreboard in the fourth. NKU scored on a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth for the final count.
The Panthers batted in the top of the fifth ending the game on the eight-run rule.
Smithson had two of the Panthers four hits. Sanders also added a double.
Vertz recorded the loss with one strikeout and seven earned runs.
Kayla Meny ended the final 2.1 innings with a strikeout.
