Softball splits one-run games at Lewis on Sunday

Kentucky Wesleyan split one-run games with Lewis on Sunday at Romeoville, Ill. The Panthers fell in the first 5-4 and came back to win 2-1.

Ashley Crooke posted two hits, two RBIs and score two runs to lead KWC in the first contest. Six other Panthers each had one hit.

Ashlee Winstead received the loss with four strikeouts in 6.1 innings.

In the second twin-bill, Josalyn Rees hit a single RBI up the middle scoring Crooke from third to open with a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning.

Meagan Sallee collected a hit down the left side to score the game-winning run by Katy Kruse from second base.

The Flyers (15-16, 7-9 GLVC) scored in the bottom of the fourth off a pinch-hit sacrifice fly by Kelsey Ullrich to settle the final score.

Crooke, Kruse and Salle each recorded two hits each. Kayla Meny earned her second win of the season by pitching six innings and Jordan Vertz received the save.

KWC (12-16, 9-9 GLVC) hosts Saint Joseph's next Saturday at noon.
