Former Kentucky Wesleyan College All-Americans and basketball teammates Dallas Thornton and George Tinsley will be inducted into the Kentucky Black Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday in Louisville.
The Hall of Fame selected Thornton and Tinsley on these college and professional sports accomplishments:
Dallas Thornton (1965-68) –
· Voted to KWC's All-Century Team in 2010 by fans
· Two-time All-American 1967, 1968
· Two-time NCAA Champion 1966, 1968
· Honored with retired jersey number - 22
· 1968 U.S. Olympic Trials participant
· Fifth in career points with 1,929 and seventh in rebounds with 903
· Played professionaly with the world famous Harlem Globetrotters for 16 years
George Tinsley (1966-69) –
· KWC's All-Century Team in 2010 by receiveing the most votes from fans
· Two-time All-American, 1968, 1969
· Three-time NCAA Champion 1966, 1968, 1969
· Honored with retired jersey number - 50
· 1968 U.S. Olympic Trials participant
· All-time leading rebounder with 1,115 and fourth in career points with 2,014
· Played professionally for Kentucky Colonels, Oakland Oaks, Washington Capitals, Miami Floridians and New Jersey Nets of the ABA.
Fellow inductees include Muhammed Ali (boxing), Bruce Branch (sports journalist), Jim Green (track), Wilbert Hacket (football), Joe Hocker (horse racing), Wade Houston (basketball), Joe Hocker (horse racing), Troy Jackson (basketball), Frank Minnifield (football), Sammy Moore (basketball), S.T. Roach (basketball), Gail Strange (track), Clarance Wilson (baseball and basketball).
