100-Year Basketball Celebration comes to a close

The year-long 100-Year Basketball Celebration came to a close on Saturday, May 22 at the Gala Dinner honoring the All-Century and All-Decade Basketball Team members.

All-Century Team

Gary Auten (1959-62) – Two-time All-American…1960 NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team…1961 NCAA Regional All-Tournament team…1960 United States Olympic Trials participant…sixth leading scorer with 1,774 career points…averaged 22.7 points as a junior and senior…sixth in free throw shooting with 76.1 percent.

J.B. Brown (1985-88) – 1988 First-team All-American…1988 All-Great Lakes Valley Conference selection…1988 All-Great Lakes Region honoree…holds single game block record with 12…all-time shot-blocker with 121…scored 1,233 career points…grabbed 797 rebounds…holds the career field goal percentage record with 58.7 percent.

Bill Carlyle (1961-62) – Averaged 20 points and 11.3 rebounds while shooting 53.7 percent from the field and 75.9 percent from the free throw stripe as a senior...led the Panthers to their first 20-win season in 1962.

Kelly Coleman (1958-60) – Two-time All-American…honored with retired jersey number…third in career points with 2,077…finished third in the nation in scoring in 1960...sixth in career rebounds with 904…1960 All-NCAA Regional…holds season scoring record with 848 and average 30.3…sixth in career rebounds with 904.

Patrick Critchelow (1996-99) – 1999 Great Lakes Valley Conference All-Tournament Team…1998 NCAA Regional Most Outstanding Player…two-time NCAA Regional All-Tournament Team…holds NCAA season record for most games started with 37…third in career assists with 454…collected 172 steals.

Corey Crowder (1988-91) – 1991 National Player of the Year…three-time first team All-American…honored with retired jersey number…all-time leading scorer with 2,282 points…collected 806 rebounds…two-time Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year…four-time All-GLVC honoree…1990 NABC All-Star Game participant.

Willis Cheaney (1992-95) –1995 First team All-American…1995 Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year…two-time All-Great Lakes Valley Conference selection…1995 All-Great Lakes Region honoree… all-time playmaker with 635 assists…scored 1,350 career points…second in career steals with 223.

Rod Drake (1981-84) – Three-time All-American…honored with retired jersey number…four-time All-Great Lakes Valley Conference selection…1984 NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team…two-time NCAA Regional Most Outstanding Player…second in assists with 458…seventh in points with 1,664…starter on two Final Four teams.

Marlon Parmer (2003) – 2003 National Player of the Year…consensus first team All-American…2003 Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year…first six-time GLVC Player of the Week honoree...second in NCAA assists at 8.2 per game…produced first back-to-back triple-doubles in history…broke season assist record with 286.

Joe Roop (1953-56) – 1956 Honorable mention All-American…two-time All-Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honoree…scored 1,127 career points…averaged 10.8 points and 9.3 rebounds while shooting 45.3 percent from the field as a senior…tenth in career free throws made with 321.
 
Mike Redd
(1964) – Regarded as the most athletic player ever to wear the Purple and White…averaged 20.7 points and 6.8 rebounds…shot 47.3 percent from the field and 79.4 percent from the free throw line…produced 33 points and 10 rebounds against Louisville…led KWC to the 1964 NCAA Regional.
