Breland McKnight transfer to KWC

Breland McKnight, a 6-foot-7, 260-pound, center at Illinois Central (Jr.) College in East Peoria, Ill., will transfer to Kentucky Wesleyan College for his final two years to complete his education and basketball career, Panther fourth-year head coach Todd Lee announced.

McKnight, a native of Peoria, Ill., led the Cougars in scoring (12.4) and rebounding (6.2) in 20 games. He shot 46.4 percent from the field and 70.0 percent from the free throw line while leading ICC to a 24-9 record and the regional championship game.

His 2009 accolades include first-team All-Mid-West Conference and All-Region 24 recognition and preseason first-team All-America honors.

"Breland is a big strong player that has great hands and a great touch," said Lee. "He will remind our fans of Jeff Fahnbulleh, not only with his body type but also how he plays the game.

"He is a very skilled offensive player and an excellent passer for a post player. Breland has the ability to score the ball inside and stepping out on the perimeter."

As a freshman, McKnight also led ICC in scoring (15.4) and rebounding (5.9) while shooting 43.2 percent from the field and 71.1 percent from the charity stripe.

McKnight was an Illinois Basketball Coaches Association All-State honoree at Manual High School and a first-team all-conference and all-region selection as a senior.

Kentucky Wesleyan compiled a 19-9 record and earned a record breaking 35th trip to the NCAA tournament in 2009.
