Freshmen key Panthers' victory

Box Score

Kentucky Wesleyan had a couple of freshmen make impressive debuts Tuesday night in an 83-61 women's basketball win over Oakland City College at the Sportscenter.

The Panthers got a game-high 17 points from Jordan Ogle and another 14 from Lauren Goffinet in the season-opening win.

Ogle is a 6-foot guard from Columbus, Ind., and Goffinet is a 5-11 freshman from Tell City.

"Goffinet is more versatile," KWC coach Ron Williams said. "She can play the point, two or three. She can pull up off the dribble. Jordan is more of a catch and shoot player."

Ogle definitely did that in the first half, when she scored 13 points. She made 6-of-8 from the floor, including 3-of-4 on 3-pointers.

"Jordan did a good job when the post players kicked it out to her," Williams said.

Candace Garrett came off the bench to contribute 13 points. The senior out of defunct Muhlenberg North High School scored 13 points, hitting all three of her shots from the floor and all six free throws.

Junior forward Amanda Harnist nearly had a double-double for KWC, pulling down 10 rebounds to go with eight points.

"We got a lot of contributions, and that is us right now," Williams said. "Any one of our players can step up at any given moment."

The Panthers hit 28-of-61 from the floor for 45.9 percent. They also were good on 22-of-29 free throws and 5-of-13 from 3-point range.

Kristi McVey scored 11 points to lead Oakland City, which was also opening its season.
